I just checked another car off my list of must drives. Some cars are just out of reach for most of us. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and Bugatti might get a lot of press, but the reality is not many people in the media get to drive them. And if you’re not an editor or a senior writer you can forget about it. Insurance clauses a plenty keep the average magazine guy well away from the driver’s seat...

The fastest I’ve ever driven was about 255km/h. I sat on about 245km/h for a few minutes, pushed it to the speed limiter kicked in and then wound it all down to a more manageable 220km/h. I don’t think I’ll beat my top speed. But since then I’ve driven much quicker. Confusing? Yes, but let me explain. Doing 255 in safety of a high speed bowl when you’re the only car on it isn’t exactly hard to do....
